About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy (JFFP) is an electronic, open access, peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the study of French and Francophone thought. JFFP, though rooted in the discipline of philosophy, also invites interdisciplinary extensions and explorations inspired by philosophical thought.

Peer Review Process

The Journal of French and Francophone Philsophy adheres to a policy of double-blind peer review. After an initial screening process, each manuscript will be reviewed by qualified reviewers, and our goal will be to provide substantive feedback to authors within two to three months. In order to ensure appropriate review, the author name(s) should appear only on the title page, references to any author's prior work should be masked, and internal identifications in the text should be removed. Manuscripts that have already been published or are currently under review elsewhere should not be submitted.

The Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy is published twice yearly.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy is an open access journal and operates under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International license. Under this license and agreement, authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication. Please see our full statement on copyright.

Our rationale for operating as an open access journal is simple: we want the widest distribution possible for the ideas expressed in the journal. With open access, the articles published in the Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy are available to scholars and students worldwide without subscription costs.  Given the international scope of the journal - addressing ideas in and from the francophone world - maximizing access to scholarship is paramount.

Furthermore, we encourage authors to post their pre-publication manuscript in institutional repositories or on their Web sites prior to and during the submission process, and to post the Publisher’s final formatted PDF version after publication. These practices benefit authors with productive exchanges as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.

There are no article processing charges, submissions fees, or any other costs required of authors to submit articles to this journal.

Journal History

Founded in 1989 by Colette Michael under the title Bulletin de la Société Américaine de Philosophie de Langue Française (Bulletin of the American Society for Philosophy in the French Language) (ISSN 1936-6280), the Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy is a forum for discussion of the diverse philosophical strains of French and Francophone thought, with an emphasis on contemporary figures and issues and a commitment to interdisciplinary perspectives. The JFFP (ISSN-2155-1162) is a peer-reviewed journal, published twice yearly, indexed in both the Philosopher’s Index and the MLA International Bibliography.
